BMW 550i
So the 550i is expensive, but so are Brioni suits, a night at the Bellagio and a 65-inch plasma television. They're all pricey purchases, but they're usually worth it. Therefore, the question should be: Is this midsize luxury sedan that's oh-so-good in oh-so-many ways too expensive?
Lincoln MKS AWD: Comfort
Front seats are nicely shaped, but the power lumbar support is too hard, useful only if you're willing to suffer a few bruised vertebrae along with your lower back relief. Taller drivers may feel as though they're sitting in the backseat due to the forward positioning of the front doors. Speaking of the backseat, it's one of the MKS's strongest suits. There's excellent head- and legroom back there, along with a pleasantly high cushion for thigh support. The standard rear seat heaters are a thoughtful touch.
Ford Flex Limited
Comfort
The third row comfortably accommodated a pair of 6-footers on an afternoon drive. The ample amount of space helped here, but the Flex's big rear quarter windows and our test car's optional dual-pane skylight provided an airiness that no three-row vehicle (short of a Dodge Sprinter) can match. Standard and optional amenities like rear climate controls, a 115-volt house-style power outlet and a rear-seat entertainment system make the kids feel at home.
